2009 Supporter's Festival

We are happy to announce the 2009 Supporter's Festival!

On August 22nd, the Saturday following the Taiji Ball seminar in CA, Dr. Yang will host an invitation-only Supporter's Festival. Qualified supporters are those who have donated $1,000 or more. Unfortunately, the Retreat Center is currently not in a position to host a large-scale event, so we are not yet able to accommodate every one of our valued supporters. However, we do hope to expand over the years to be able to invite more supporters, participants, and visitors to the center.

At the moment, we are only able to host a maximum of 20 guests at the Retreat Center, due to financial restrictions and limited lodging space. All donors of $1,000 or more have already been sent an invitation to this event. Please RSVP as soon as possible. All "$25 per month" Pay Pal subscribers are qualified to attend after 3 years. All "$50 per month" Pay Pal subscribers are qualified after 2 years.

The festival will be a free all-day event at the Retreat Center. It will include a martial arts demonstration by Dr. Yang and the Retreat Center disciples, as well as a dinner with Dr. Yang, the disciples, student sponsors, major supporters, and members of the local community. Thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, and supporters of every kind. The Retreat Center would not be possible without you!

If you live in the USA, you are eligible to receive a tax deduction for the full amount that you donate. Please donate online or send your gift by mail to Dr. Yang directly in CA. We will send you a donation receipt.

Second Semester is Going Well - Spring 2009

The second semester at the YMAA Retreat Center is going well. Since January, the disciples of the 10-year training program have trained diligently everyday. They have been focusing primarily on body conditioning so far, including running, climbing, jumping, strength development, and flexibility training. They also hike and run up and down the mountain while carrying weights. Their ultimate goal will be to run up the mountain in 10 minutes while carrying a load of 50 lbs. The disciples will soon be ready to begin training their first White Crane and Long Fist Kung Fu sequences and forms.

The disciples also have regular classes in Chinese language and video production. Furthermore, each disciple is required to research, write, and refine articles regarding specific subjects in Chinese martial arts. Their articles are submitted for review and publication each semester.

In February, Dr. Yang taught classes and seminars on the east cost in Boston and Andover, MA while the disciples continued to train independently, maintaining their rigorous training regimen. Dr. Yang's Winter Seminar Season was a great success, attracting many participants both locally and internationally.

Short Movie by the Retreat Center Students

Get a glimpse inside the California Retreat Center in this short promotional film, which was completed by the disciples as their first video production assignment.

Special thanks to their video instructors Craig Atkinson and Rii Kanzaki. The next project will consist of making short, downloadable video clips of Taijiquan martial applications.
