Five More Students for a Five-Year Program
Dr. Yang will recruit another small group of students for an intensive training period of five years. This period will begin in September 2013 and will end in June 2018.
The age limit for the five year training program will be from 17 to 25. If you or someone you know is passionate about Chinese martial arts and culture, please get in touch. You and/or your parents may also contact Dr. Yang directly by phone: (707) 502-8739. The Retreat Center is located in Northern California in the town of Miranda.
Although applications for this program will not formally be available until February 2012, Dr. Yang is currently accepting inquiries from all who are interested. Selected candidates will be invited to the Retreat Center for a month of training and testing to experience the center firsthand. To be eligible to apply, you must have your parents' approval, and you will also be required to finish high school by the start of the program. Every accepted student must also be able to afford the basic annual expenses, which is $10,000 per year.
The nonprofit YMAA Retreat Center is an accredited educational institution. Upon completion of the program, students will earn the title of Master of Chinese Martial Arts.
Dr. Yang and Students Attend Tiger Claw Martial Arts Tournament
Dr. Yang, Jon Chang, Santi Costello, Patrick Manriquez, and Javier Rodriguez attended the 3rd Annual Tiger Claw Kung Fu Magazine Championship.
The night before the tournament, Dr. Yang attended the welcoming banquet with Grandmaster Liang Shou-Yu, Master He Tao, Grandmaster Chu Chi-Ling, and Master Grace Wu.
Dr. Yang demonstrated Yang Taijiquan with Jing during the tournament. Each of the students competed in several categories and won several awards.
2011 Summer Seminars
Because of the YMAA International Summer Camp in Poland, this year Dr. Yang is offering five seminars at the YMAA California Retreat Center instead of the usual six (July 22nd - August 26th). Summer seminars include: Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Applications, Taiji Pushing Hands, Taiji Fighting Set, Qigong-1 (Qigong Theory and Spine Qigong), Qigong-5 (Qigong Massage).
Master Kao Qigong DVD
Now available! We had the distinct pleasure of hosting a visit in 2010 by Grandmaster Kao, Tao (高濤), who was Dr. Yang's first Taijiquan teacher. While he was at the Retreat Center, he taught daily lessons to the students on Chinese culture, language, and Qigong. We took one day to produce this instructional video with him, capturing his personal daily Qigong routine, which includes specific exercises for the eyes, ears, brain, lungs, and more. At 80 years old, he is vibrant, happy, and healthy, and a great testament to the effectiveness of regular Qigong practice.
