Year Four is a Go!
Year 4 of the 10-year program has begun! The disciples are in full-gear as they approach their next milestones in training. They have been working hard on the next program, Kung Fu Body Conditioning DVD 2. Their training this year consists of more advanced conditioning, rooting exercises, training techniques, and fundamental sequences. You may see a recent YMAA Retreat Center video above.
October 1, 2011 marks YMAA's 29th anniversary. In October 1982, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming began to pursue his dream of teaching, writing, and promoting traditional Chinese martial arts. This was a promise he made at his White Crane master's tomb. He vowed to preserve the knowledge that had been passed down to him as best as he could. YMAA has grown from small classes in Dr. Yang's driveway in Houston, TX to an organization of over 50 schools in 17 countries, a testament to the saying, "If you can see it, you can be it." Congratulations to Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming and everyone who helped make YMAA what it is today.
Five More Students for a Five-Year Program
Dr. Yang will recruit another small group of students for an intensive training period of five years. This period will begin in September 2013 and will end in June 2018.
The age limit for the five year training program will be from 17 to 25. If you or someone you know is passionate about Chinese martial arts and culture, please get in touch. You and/or your parents may also contact Dr. Yang directly by phone: (707) 502-8739. The Retreat Center is located in Northern California in the town of Miranda.
Although applications for this program will not formally be available until February 2012, Dr. Yang is currently accepting inquiries from all who are interested. Selected candidates will be invited to the Retreat Center for a month of training and testing to experience the center firsthand. To be eligible to apply, a student must have his parents' approval, and will also be required to finish high school by the start of the program. Every accepted student must also be able to afford the basic annual expenses, which is $10,000 per year.
The nonprofit YMAA Retreat Center is an accredited educational institution. Upon completion of the program, students will earn the title of Master of Chinese Martial Arts.
