A Vision for the Future
Dr. Yang is in a unique position, carrying the legacy of traditional Chinese masters and possessing the understanding of a new generation. He has dedicated his life to bridging the East and the West through Chinese arts. Having earned B.S. and M.S. degrees and Physics and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Yang has been applying, explaining, and training the ancient arts with a modern scientific perspective.
As the YMAA Retreat Center develops, it will be a beacon, a leading example of reestablishing the model and methods of ancient martial arts training. The YMAA Retreat Center will also include a comprehensive curriculum that includes many other aspects of classical Chinese culture. Through a high level of education, morality, and the emphasis of the development of the art over violence, greed, and selfishness, it will lead future generations to the path of self-discipline, humility, responsibility, confidence, and compassion.
The graduating students of the YMAA Retreat Center will possess an exceptionally high level of expertise in many traditional Chinese arts, including internal healing arts and meditation. They will be capable of properly guiding the continued synthesis of the Eastern and Western sciences, each branching out to teach countless others the skills they have mastered, while still furthering the development of the arts.
The facilities of the YMAA Retreat Center were established in 2004, including a solar panel array for sustainable, off-the-grid power and a water well supplying natural and fresh water. In 2008, the indoor lodging and training facility was completed to supplement the smaller cabin building.
